Golfing Rules: Q & A

Ball Overhanging Hole – Time Allowed

Situation: A player’s ball comes to rest on the lip (overhanging) of the hole, he waits about 30 seconds and his ball falls in the hole. How much time is he allowed in this situation?

Solution: After the player reaches the hole without undue delay, he is allowed ten additional seconds. If the ball does not fall in by this time, it is deemed to be at rest. If it falls in after that time, a penalty stroke is accessed to the player.

Let’s say in the above question the player lies 3, his score would be a 4 with the penalty. If it fell in before ten seconds elapsed after reaching his ball, his score would be a 3.
