Playing in the Wind
“SWING WITH EASE IN THE BREEZE” – Probably the best swing thought any golfer can have in the wind.
Along with slowing down your swing I would suggest you focus on keeping your balance throughout the swing, which will really improve your striking in difficult conditions.
Driver
Tee height for your driver (for those who don’t know) is normally having half the ball above the top of the club head when placed behind the ball. In wind have only 10% of the ball showing above the club head for lower trajectory and straighter shots.
N.B. Don’t move ball position with the driver!!!
Irons
First of all take enough club that you know you can swing very smooth with, you don’t want to lash at anything! Next move the ball position back in your stance 2 or 3 inches making sure your club face stays aiming at target while doing so. Finally move your hands ahead of the ball (closer to the target) as this de-lofts the club. Swing smooth and as you strike the ball try to get your hands back to this forward position. The shot will travel very low and hold its line better in wind. This is a “punch” shot and will take practice!
Well I hope you enjoyed my piece and you got something from it and I look forward to sharing next months tips with you.
