Captain’s Day Results
Mens Captain’s Day
In the week leading up to the event the weather reports were promising some gale force winds and steady rain for the Saturday. Surely the Captain’s Day couldn’t experience poor weather for a third year in a row?
The first four ball teed off a 8:30am with clouds lurking over head and the course wet from the over night rain. The early golfers were thinking that if they could get the 18 holes played and post a decent score before the really bad weather kicked in for the late starters then they’d have a good chance of winning.
The rain never arrived as promised and the sun came out instead which warmed the course up. Conditions improved and it turned into a fabulous days golf and the scoring was going well. The wind made it tricky for anyone to put together a complete round but with the challenge set there’s always a few that come shinning through.
On the day, ‘Mr. Consistent’ Ger Cullen teed it up in the afternoon and flew around the course posting a great winning score of 36 points. This is the second time in three years that Ger has lifted the trophy and shows why he can claim to be the number one golfer in the club when you pair this record up with his matchplay exploits. Congrats to Ger and a big Congratulations to Captain Willie McAnaspie who not only put on a great days golf which everyone loved but he also hosted a superb awards evening that night in Newtownmountkenneddy.
