Matchplay reaches the Quarter Finals

We have now reached the business end of the matchplay cup with those remaining in the competition beginning to dream of lifting the trophy and being crowned Champion for 2011.
The 2nd Round didn’t fail to deliver exciting match-ups as over 80% of the matches went down the 18th hole. The most high profile matchup was the repeat of the 2009 final between Ger Cullen & Club Captain Willie McAnaspie. It was a hum-dinger of a match but like in 2009, Ger’s relentless consistency from tee box to green just proved the decisive factor in getting through to the Quarter Finals.
They say that if you are going to be the best you have to beat the best. This is no more true for Ger having beaten one of the more feared matchplay players in round 2, he has been drawn up against Andrew Plunket in the Quarter Finals. This is undoubted the tie of the round as the 2009 Champion takes on the 2010 Champion.
